Grade 8 Science Oct. 27-30
Your child will be working on a "pathogen" project - more details to follow on Tuesday Oct. 27th. I will provide a bit of information so your child can research a specific pathogen in class, but a lot of research needs to be completed at home, including a bibliography (minimum four sources). Presentations will be on Friday Oct. 30th. Various topics include: typhoid fever, malaria, mad cow, food poisoning, and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. Past posters have generated a lot of interest from both students in other grades and teachers alike!
Grade 7 Science Oct. 27-30
We have been studying the digestive system and will be creating healthy meal plans. Your child has examined labels and we have discussed saturated fat, unsaturated fat, sugar, preservatives, fast food, fruits, vegetables, and exercise. Then we will move on to the circulatory system. This second semester we will focus heavily on the systems of the human body.
Grade 6 Science Oct. 27-30
We will continue to study sedimentary rocks and examine the effects of chemical and physical weathering, deposition, and cementation. Did you know that 3/4 of all rocks are sedimentary? Bringing in sedimentary rocks and rocks of interest is encouraged!
Grade 5 Science Oct. 27-30
Parents,
We will be preparing for our First Nine Weeks Weather exam during this week. The purpose of this test will be to review information and retain it in long term memory, and get used to multiple choice testing so that your child does his or her best on the Science End of Grade test in May. The test on weather will include all of the vocabulary and concepts on weather during the nine weeks. I will be giving students multiple choice questions from previous end of quarter tests, test booklets, and the Competitive Edge textbook. The exam is Friday October 30 and will count as a test grade. Please check your child's agenda, and help your child study using the Competitive Edge test (pg. 146-151) and other review sheet provided.
